John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Contemplate Leaving California Due to Wildfire Crisis
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are seriously considering relocating back to New York after the devastating wildfires in California. The couple, who have called California home for some time, reflected on the idea of returning to their previous residence after their experience of being evacuated during the wildfires in January.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, John shared that both he and Chrissy have been contemplating the move more than ever. After being forced to evacuate their home and live in a hotel with their children and pets for a week, the couple began rethinking their long-term living situation.
“Chrissy and I have always considered returning to New York, where we once lived. We probably will, once our youngest ones grow up a bit,” John explained, referring to their children, Esti and Wren. “Every time nature shows its wrath, we wonder if it’s time to head back East. Who knows.”
John and Chrissy are also parents to Luna, 8, and Miles, 6. The family returned from a holiday on January 7 to see the dangerous flames and billowing smoke from the Palisades fire. As the Sunset fire grew on January 9, the danger felt too close for comfort, prompting them to leave.
“That night, my wife and I gathered our four kids, four dogs, and our bearded dragon and drove south to a hotel in Carlsbad. We didn’t return until the following week,” John recalled.
While their home ultimately survived the wildfires, John admitted that the threat is still very much present, describing the entire ordeal as “a collective trauma that shook everyone.”
The couple, who tied the knot in 2013, sold their Manhattan home in 2022. John, 46, has expressed his longing for New York, which he calls “his favorite city,” but noted that his professional commitments in Los Angeles currently keep him tied to the West Coast.
