Love is the Answer

Love is the Answer
Artists: England Dan and John Ford Coley
Original artists: Utopia (Todd Rundgren)
I wanted to feature this song for a couple of reasons. One, I seriously like it, and, two, it
gives me the chance to feature one of my music idols – Todd Rundgren.
Perhaps some of you are not too familiar with Todd. He had hits with songs such as I
Saw the Light and Can We Still Be Friends? But it is for his work as a record producer
that I have the highest regard for the man. Why? He produced the Bat Out of Hell album
with Meat Loaf, a task he took on when several other producers were far from
convinced about ‘Meat’s’ potential. And what a wonderful job he made of it. ‘Bat’ has
sold more than 43 million copies and continues to sell well at the time of writing.

Rundgren features on a few episodes of Daryl’s House with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates.
There’s an episode showing Rundgren’s house in Hawaii if you wish to be made sick
with jealousy. But here we show Can we Still be Friends?

Love is the Answer was the final top 40 hit for England Dan and John Ford Coley. Dan’s
real name was Dan Seals. He was the younger brother of Jim Seals of Seals and Crofts
fame (more on them in a future blog). He got the moniker ‘England’ from Jim because of
his love of The Beatles.
Dan and Coley are probably best known for their big hit, I’d Really Love to See You
Tonight which reached No 2 in the US charts.
