Keefe D’s Lawyer Files Motion to Dismiss Tupac Shakur Murder Case

January 8, 2025 – The lawyer representing Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the man accused of orchestrating the 1996 murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur, has filed a motion to dismiss the case on constitutional grounds.

Carl Arnold, Davis’ attorney, argues that the 27-year delay in prosecution and the alleged failure to honor immunity agreements violate Davis’ constitutional rights.

In a press release, Arnold stated, “The prosecution has failed to justify a decades-long delay that has irreversibly prejudiced my client. Moreover, the failure to honor immunity agreements undermines the criminal justice system’s integrity and seriously questions this prosecution.”

Davis has been in custody since his 2023 arrest. He claims he was granted immunity after confessing to involvement in Tupac’s murder during a 2008 investigation. Despite this, prosecutors reopened the case, citing what they describe as “voluminous” evidence linking Davis to the fatal shooting.

Davis, who has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, denies firing the shots that killed Tupac. In his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend, Davis detailed orchestrating the murder but later claimed the book’s revelations were for “entertainment purposes” and financial gain.

The court has set January 21 for Davis to argue his motion for dismissal, with his trial scheduled to begin on March 17.

Tupac Shakur’s murder, which took place in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, has remained one of the most high-profile unsolved cases in music history until Davis’ arrest reignited public interest.

The upcoming hearings are expected to shed further light on the case and the evidence that led to the long-delayed charges.
